Is Ozone Coffee fair trade coffee?
Ozone Coffee Roasters is committed to fair, direct relationship trade and sustainable philosophies. We continually strive to develop strong ethical relationships with our suppliers to ensure a direct benefit to coffee farmers and growers.
Relationship trade helps provide famers and their families with a fair price for their coffee and develops ongoing supply chains into the future. Farmers are fairly rewarded for producing higher quality beans as we pay a fair and just price. This helps to empower the farmers, regenerate their crops and support their communities.
We’ll continue to source direct relationship coffee origins and look forward to sharing these with you as we release each new origin.
How often do you roast coffee?
We roast coffee daily to order for optimum freshness and quality.
What training and support do you provide?
You’ll find we provide comprehensive training and support to cafes and restaurants throughout England and New Zealand. Our stringent barista training programme develops competent skilled baristas and we also provide extensive start up and ongoing support and advice to café owners and managers.
What types of coffee machines do you recommend?
We recommend Nuova Simonelli espresso machines for cafes and we’re proud to stock and supply the range of traditional Nuova Simonelli espresso machines, including the World Barista Competition accredited Aurelia Competizione. For home use, we recommend and supply the Nuova Simonelli Musica, the Vibiemme Domobar, the Rocket and La Bambina.
How do you maintain your quality of coffee?
Our roasting team lives, tastes and breathes coffee. Head Roaster and Production Manager, Paul Newbold, has studied at the prestigious international Boot Consulting and annually participates on the International Cup of Excellence jury (this year he’s heading to Costa Rica!) Every blend and origin undergoes a rigorous cupping and tasting procedure before our team releases the coffee to you.
How soon should I use my coffee?
We recommend using coffee between four and ten days of roasting. Very fresh coffee, less than four days old, is suitable for slow brew methods (such as filter, plunger, hario) but it's still best to let it rest for a day or so after roasting. When coffee is too fresh for espresso, the crema will be bubbly, can dissipate quickly and may taste very fresh and bright.
What is “dutched” chocolate?
Our specially developed hot chocolate blend has one of the highest levels of cocoa and has a rich chocolaty taste. Sourced from West African cocoa, our cocoa is dutch processed, resulting in lower acidity and a delicious intense flavour.
What type of roasting method do you use?
We roast using traditional artisan roasting methods on a vintage Probat drum roaster.
How should I store my coffee?
We recommend you store your coffee in an airtight container in a cool dark place, not in the fridge or freezer. Our Ozone coffee tins are perfect!
Where do you source your beans from?
We source our beans from a range of countries, predominantly Central and South America, Indonesia and East Africa.
